What is a World Heritage site?
A World Heritage site is a cultural or natural site that is so valuable that it is a concern for the whole of humanity.
It is a place, area or object that is unique testimony to the history of the earth and of humankind. When a site is inscribed on Unesco’s World Heritage List it is guaranteed protection and care for all time.
The World Heritage List is based on Unesco’s Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, which was adopted in 1972.
