Are you in the right clothes for a session underground?
The temperature underground is always about +5°C (+40°F), much the same as in a fridge. It can be muddy underfoot and there can be puddles. To prepare yourself well for your visit below ground we’ve compiled a checklist:
- Put warm clothes on – a sweater or outdoor jacket for example.
- Choose footwear that can stand a bit of dirt; many people prefer boots below ground. The mine passages are muddy and the earth underground is yellow ochre in colour. So it’s wise to have footwear that can take a hosing down, after your mine visit.
Protective helmets and rain capes for adults and children can be borrowed for the visit.
