A warm welcome to Falu Mine, the heart of the World Heritage Site of Falun.
Environmental sustainability is important to us, and we want to make it easy for our visitors to do the right thing. Throughout the area, you will find clearly marked bins for sorting your waste. There are also several places where you can refill your water bottle with cold drinking water.
You are in a protected area. The slag heaps and spoil heaps, as well as all buildings, are protected under the Swedish Heritage Conservation Act, which means they must be treated with care. Visitors are therefore not allowed to take stones, slag or any other objects from the site, and should stay within designated areas and avoid damaging buildings.
Our visitor guidelines are in place to protect the historic environment, wildlife and nature, our staff and, not least, you as a visitor.
For your own safety and the safety of others
As a visitor, you are required to:
- Follow all safety instructions provided prior to your underground visit, for example wearing a helmet at all times during the guided tour
- Follow the rules that apply in other areas, such as the no-bag policy in the Mine Museum
- Respect all barriers and cordoned-off areas, for example around the open pit mine Stora Stöten
- Do not climb on slag heaps or spoil heaps
Be considerate of others
As a visitor, you are required to:
- Show respect towards staff and other visitors, for example by maintaining a polite tone and avoiding pushing or crowding
- Be considerate of other visitors’ experience of Falu Mine
- Park in designated areas only and do not block electric vehicle charging spaces
- Take responsibility for your dog; dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the mine area, and you must always clean up after them
- Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas, but are not permitted underground, in the Mine Museum or in the Visitor Centre
Respect the site, wildlife and the environment
As a visitor, you are required to:
- Dispose of waste in designated bins and sort it according to the signage
- Show consideration for the wildlife on site, for example the protected Eurasian eagle-owl
- Not damage buildings, structures or any other property on the site
- Not take slag or spoil from the area
- Not smoke near the site’s historic wooden buildings
- Not use firecrackers or set off fireworks
- Request permission before flying drones or carrying out commercial photography on the mine site
