Arkivet is located on the upper floor of the Mining Museum, in the building known as “Stora Gruvstugan”. The building once housed offices for the mine administration, while Arkivet was originally used as an archive.
The present building is a replica of the original and was constructed in the 1960s. The original building stood closer to the edge of the Great Pit, Stora Stöten, and could not be preserved due to ground instability and mining activities above ground.
