Celebrate Walpurgis night
From 30 April, Falu Gruva is open every day, and on that same day we also celebrate Walpurgis Night in Sweden.
Walpurgis Eve (30 April) is a traditional spring celebration in Sweden. It marks the arrival of warmer days and the end of winter. Across the country, people gather outdoors to light large bonfires, sing traditional songs and welcome the changing season. It’s a social and atmospheric evening, often enjoyed with friends and family.
On the mine area, Falu kommun is hosting a Walpurgis celebration open to the public, starting at 6 pm.
We offer a guided mine tour in English at 3.30 pm, so why not celebrate Walpurgis Night starting with a visit 60 meters under ground.
1 May – a Public Holiday
May Day (1 May) is a public holiday in Sweden, traditionally associated with the arrival of spring and, for many, public gatherings and demonstrations. It’s a day when people are off work and spend time with family and friends.
At Falun Mine, we are open as usual, with guided underground tours and the Mining Museum welcoming visitors throughout the day. From 1 May, the museum is open daily until the end of September – and the same applies to the Visitor Centre, the shop and our guided tours underground.
